What are protein amino acids?
As the name suggests, protein amino acids are those amino acids that are included in all proteins in the body. There are 20 of them, and the overriding (though not the only) role for them is a building function. Protein amino acids affect, for example, metabolism, regenerative processes or the secretion of hormones. They can also help in faster recovery after exercise, block catabolism and accelerate the expansion of muscle tissue.
Proteins and protein amino acids - are they the same?
On the Internet, you may encounter an equivocation between these two terms, and find many queries on the browser with the content "protein amino acids" and vice versa - "protein amino acids". This is a mistake, because proteins and amino acids are not the same thing, even though they have a lot in common.
When it comes to proteins, protein amino acids are simply their building blocks. Linked together by a peptide bond, amino acids form proteins through the process of translation.
All protein amino acids - a complete list
As we mentioned, there are 20 protein amino acids. Among them, you will find 12 endogenous amino acids (that is, those that the body can make on its own) and 8 exogenous ones, supplied, for example, with food or supplementation. It is worth mentioning that in many situations an additional supply of endogenous amino acids proves necessary - although the body has the ability to produce them, it is not always at a sufficient level. This is especially the case for people who exercise intensively.
The basic protein amino acids from the perspective of sports people we can certainly consider, among others, arginine, methionine, glutamine, lysine and glycine, the exact effects of which we will describe in the next paragraph.
Check out the complete list of protein amino acids:
- alanine,
- arginine,
- asparagine
- cysteine,
- phenylalanine
- glycine,
- glutamine (glutamic acid),
- histidine,
- hydroxyproline,
- isoleucine,
- aspartic acid,
- leucine,
- lysine,
- methionine,
- proline,
- serine,
- tyrosine,
- treonine,
- tryptophan,
- valine.
How can protein amino acids support your body?
Protein amino acids perform a number of functions in the human body. Some of them are worth reaching for, especially when your body is exposed to increased exertion.
Arginine
You may also encounter the name l-arginine. It is a protein amino acid that is produced by the body, but not always in the right amount. It has a positive effect on building muscle mass and regulates the production of growth hormone, crucial for increasing muscle mass while reducing body fat. Arginine can also protect you from colds: on the one hand, it strengthens the immune system, and on the other, it improves the quality of intestinal flora, the poor state of which can also result in recurrent infections.
In the Biolab store you can find it in as many as 4 ready-made amino acid blends: Night Blend, Vaso Burn Pro, Extreme Pump and Extreme Pump 2 (enriched with two more protein amino acids - lysine and glycine).
Methionine
Methionine is an essential amino acid that requires external supply to the body. It is another protein amino acid associated with growth hormone production, but also with tissue regeneration or anti-aging effects, so it is also used in cosmetics.
It is good to know that methionine is a key element in the process of protein synthesis. Deficiency of methionine can directly translate into the fact that this process will not be initiated. Add to this the fact that methionine stimulates the secretion of creatine in muscles, and it becomes an essential for anyone building mass.
Where can you find methionine in Biolab's offerings? In Lipo Burn with inositol and choline, and in Shredded AF accompanied by l-carnitine, inositol, choline, vitamin B6 and B12.
Glutamine
A classic among protein-type amino acids, so gym-goers don't even need to be introduced to it. Glutamine supplementation is important because its level decreases after prolonged exercise. Meanwhile, glutamine influences muscle growth, training performance, as well as boosts immunity and improves gut health.
If you're looking for a ready-made product with it, check out our Vaso Burn Pro or Night Blend
Lysine
Lysine is one answer to two of your most important needs: better immune function and faster recovery (especially within the muscles). It also has a ketogenic effect, meaning that it makes your body more willing to "give up" fat stores.
Sound good? Check out Extreme Pump 2, which includes just lysine.
Glycine
Extreme Pump 2 also includes glycine, which helps regulate cellular stress and blood glucose levels. It is one of the components of collagen, which means it can also support healthy skin and overstressed joints, and its deficiencies can lead to unpleasant muscle cramps, for example.
In our product it has been supplemented with arginine, ornithine, citrulline and lysine.
