MT-2, is a synthetic analogue of the alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone. Melanotan 2, developed in the 1980s, has been shown to increase sexual arousal, reduce compulsive/addictive behaviour, reduce hunger and promote lean body mass. The research shows that the peptide stimulates melanocytes, thus causing increased skin pigmentation, and may help to combat autism when used in early childhood.

Melanotan 2, according to studies, could be used to get a quick tan without being exposed to prolonged UV radiation. This is only a theory, supported by few studies.
